Construction has begun on the €325m WuXi Biologics plant in Dundalk which aims to be the world’s largest single-use biologics manufacturing facility. WuXi Biologics is Chinas leading end-to-end biologics solutions provider with the Dundalk campus and is set to be its first manufacturing facility outside China.
The build is on schedule for the new contract manufacturing biologics facility, which at 48,000 square metres in size, hopes to become the worlds largest single-use biologics manufacturing facility. The planning approval for the facility was confirmed in mid-January. Around 200,000 tonnes of earth have been moved since then, with 2,900 cubic metres of concrete has been poured for foundations. In total, more than 5,000 tonnes of steel sourced from an Irish supplier have arrived on site to enable steelworks to get underway.

Brendan Mc Grath, WuXi Biologics Ireland site head and vice-president of manufacturing said, “The project is truly moving at a ‘WuXi speed’ and we are delighted with the progress to date.” Biologics drugs represent a new frontier in medicine. The use of advanced technology will establish a ‘factory of the future’ in Dundalk reinforcing Irelands leading position globally in biologics manufacturing.
